Summary: | This research is about a coffee table that was made from treated Kelempayan wood as the raw material. Kelempayan, scientifically known as Neolamarckia cadamba, is a light hardwood timber belonging to the Rubiaceae family. As a fast-growing wood species, it can grow extremely well in exploited regions, particularly loggedover areas, for Malaysian reforestation planting programs. The study found that treated Kelempayan may be used as an alternative raw material. The treatment that was used is low molecular Phenol Formaldehyde resin, that can strengthen the durability and strength of Kelempayan wood. The aim of this study is to design a coffee table using treated Kelempayan wood as a new alternative raw material and to manufacture a coffee table as well as to get feedback from respondents on the design and material of the coffee table via a survey. The method used to analyse the data was based on a questionnaire distributed to 148 respondents from different categories of gender, age, profession and income. The evaluation was carried on the basis of the characteristics of the raw material, design, marketing and satisfaction. The data has been analysed into reliability analysis, demographic analysis, comparative analysis, descriptive analysis and correlation analysis. The results show that the overall respondents were satisfied with this product with a mean rating of 4.52. As a result, this coffee table made of treated Kelempayan wood has a high commercialization potential in today's furniture industry. |
