Summary:During the previous Budget 2012 presentation, Malaysian Government has announced to reveal a one-off cash payment of RM500 to households with income less than RM3, 000 per month. This aid is one of the several initiatives carried out by the Barisan Nasional government to improve the burden of low-income earners in facing the rising cost of living. For some people, the RM500 aid will bring about major changes. The aid was under Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia or also known as BR1M. This is one of the various initiatives taken by the government to lessen the burden of those with low income in facing the rising cost of living. In reference to the Barisan Nasional website, the requirements for an eligible household include. An eligible household refers to a man or woman who holds lead responsibility for all those living in the household. This includes individuals who are, married including married children living with parents, Single mothers or fathers with dependents, Single individuals, bachelor, divorcee, single mother, with dependents and Senior citizens without commodity. Recipients of assistance under Jabatan Kemajuan Masyarakat are also eligible for the Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia. Besides that, also automatically eligible for 1 Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) are the registrants of the e-Kasih programme. The total number of 5.2 million households earning less than RM3000 a month will get the RM500 assistance.
