Description
Summary:The course introduces students to music research methods pertaining to performance and practice-related research. The aim of the course is to gather and organise data relates to the broader issues based on interdisciplinary research paradigms within the (ethno) musicological and socio-cultural, (such as the minoritarian and postcolonial experiences). The student will develop practical skills related to archival and library research, ethnographic approaches, including participant observation and interviewing, documentation and analysis of live performance, and analysis of documents of various kinds, including visual material. We will consider the conceptualization and design of research projects in the context of theoretical and ethical issues and in relation to particular research methods and writing strategies. One is encouraged to bring projects to the course, especially ones that might develop into dissertations. The goals and the reflection of the work accomplished in the course and description of future undertakings are submitted by an essay accompanied by a portfolio.
