Description
Summary:In this course, students will delve into literature that has been specially written or produced for children and adolescents. The course material is presented thematically in two modules; the first covering literature for children and the second covering literature for adolescents. The first module comprises material familiar to children such as nursery rhymes, fairy/folk tales, fables and myths as well as classic children’s novels. The second module comprises material both classic and contemporary, for adolescents. This course will provide students with the skills required to identify and analyse literature for children and adolescents, as well as select pieces of work suitable as resources in the ESL classroom. The course also enables students to connect what they have studied to wider social, political and cultural influences that impact on writers. As today’s children and adolescents are exposed to electronic media, the texts in this course will be sourced from both printed and electronic media (film).
