Summary: | The research about the obscene lyrics in Despacito song by international singer, Louis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. In the music industry today, major part of popular music has always involved pushing the boundaries of artistic expression. Artists are pushing the limits of what is acceptable. This fine line that divides vulgarity from artistic expression is an issue that has plagued society. Malaysia is one of the countries that have banned catchy summer dance song Despacito on state radio and television after critics in the Muslim-majority country complained the lyrics were obscene. The ban applies only to government-run radio and TV outlets, not to private stations or YouTube or the music streaming services fuelling the song's success. In order to complete this research, data were collected by using purposive sampling. In depth interview were also conducted to three informants which is the radio announcer and the producer. |
