Summary:The preparation of this dissertation was mainly motivated by the desire to provide an overview of the fire safety management and the level of awareness for fire safety among the staff at private and public hospital. These are intended to establish the good practice for adopted in the event of any emergency situation. This study has specific aims and objectives to achieve in the end. The primary aim of this research is to understand the characteristic of fire, identify what are the specific regulations and requirement that must be followed, to identify the fire safety management in the building, to understand the function of fire safety equipment and to analyze the level of awareness of fire safety among the staff if fire incident happens. This dissertation is divided into seven chapters that cover the development of the study from the background investigations and researches to the final conclusions and recommendations. This dissertation includes the outline of introduction to the subjects, background and objectives of the research. The problem statements, limitation of research and scope of research are also explained in chapter 1. Chapter 2 describes the characteristics of fire. The characteristics of fire is describe in detail in this chapter, which includes the definition of fire, element of fire, sources of fire, classes of fire and the effects occur from fire. Chapter 3 explains the requirements and regulations of the fire safety equipment from Uniform Building By Law, Malaysia Standard. The operation for the equipment will also be explained in this chapter.
