The time spent on social media covers significant percentage of their daily activities especially with the available mobile devices that make logging in to social media easier. Previous studies suggest that social media does not only possess the features that focus on social interaction and activities but may also be utilised for other purposes. The features on social media that include posting, video sharing, picture sharing, chat messenger and live video are thought to bring set of qualities that can be used in teaching and learning to enhance students’ performance. This study comes up with two research objectives which are to examine the impact of social media usage in teaching and learning and the impact of intensity usage of social media on students’ performance. In this study, students’ performance is measured based on students’ Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and students’ soft skills. Primary data were collected by distributing questionnaires to Bachelor of Accountancy students in local public and private university in Melaka and received 113 respondents. The finding shows that even though usage of social media in teaching and learning provides positive significant impact toward students’ performance based on soft skills, it does not have a significant impact toward students’ performance based on CGPA. With regards to social media usage intensity, it does not have significant impact on students’ performance based on either CGPA or soft skills. This study is expected to contribute on the knowledge on social media usage for the benefit of education to help enhancing the accounting students’ performance.
