Traffic safety Traffic accidents A road accident, also known as a motor vehicle collision (MVC), traffic accident, motor vehicle accident, car accident, automobile accident, road traffic collision, road traffic accident, wreck, car crash, or car smash occurs when a vehicle collides with another vehicle, pedestrian, animal, road debris, or other stationary obstruction, such as a tree or utility pole. Traffic collisions may result in injury, death and property damage. This study was carried out to discover the relationship between self-awareness and the factors of road accidents which are drivers’ or riders’ behaviour, road quality, vehicle conditions, weather conditions and personal attitude. This study involved the participation of 100 respondents. The data were obtained by using survey questionnaires where the respondents were chosen randomly. Six research questions generated were divided into six null hypotheses which were tested at level of significance. The data were employed multiple data method by using reliability test, descriptive analysis, normality test, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation and multiple linear regression. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between vehicle and weather conditions and self-awareness. However, there was no significant relationship between drivers’ or riders’ behaviour, road quality and personal attitude and self-awareness. The findings also revealed that there was no significant difference in self-awareness between gender either male or female. Hence, suggest that people should be more aware to avoid road accidents and the next researcher should focus more on large population in order to get more reliable results Bachelor Of Science (Hons) Statistics 2016-01 Monograph NonPeerReviewed text en http://ir.uitm.edu.my/id/eprint/40874/1/40874.pdf Japar, Nur Shyafiqkha (2016) A study on self-awareness on the factors affecting road accidents at Kuching, Sarawak / Nur Shyafiqkha Japar.
