The research was conducted to understand the determinants of Malaysia’s import. In this study, the researcher has narrowed down the scope by focusing on the Malaysia’s import from Japan. The study is important to help government in controlling volume of import to ensure there is no deficit in BOP. In addition, it’s also important to reduce the dependence from other country to supply the product to our country and encourage local producer to become more competitive. The data that has be used in this study is secondary data for the 39 years commencing from 1973 to 2011.The data collected from the Data Stream System, World bank, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Department of Statistic. The results show that there is a relationship between dependent variable which is volume of import and two of the independent variables that consist of number of population and inflation rate. While, for gross domestic product (GDP) and currency exchange rate there is no relationship with volume of import. Since researcher provides several recommendations in order to control the volume of import, researcher hopes that this will help government in controlling the volume of import and boost the economy of Malaysia.
