Research Bintulu Port is one of the most modem and efficient multi-purpose ports in South East Asia. The port commenced operation in January 1983 and over the years it has a growing volume of variety of general cargoes, containerized cargoes, palm oil products, liquid and bulk dry cargoes. Currently, BPSB is 100% owned by the Public Listed Holding Company which is Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad. A sister company. Biport Bulkers Sdn Bhd operates and manage the edible oils bulking installation and the upcoming Samalaju Industrial Port Sdn Bhd will serve the industrial users at Samalaju Industrial Park. Geographically situated midway between Kuching, Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah along the busy sea lanes of Intra Asia Trade with a deep sea harbour, Bintulu Port is the import and export gateway for Sarawak and Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (B1MP-EAGA) region. Today, it is East Malaysia’s largest container port and the nation’s sole liquefied natural gas (LNG) export gateway and it is noted as currently one of the largest LNG export terminal in the world. Cargo generated from its hinterland is expected to increase as the Sarawak Corridor for Renewable Energy (SCORE) Initiatives are implemented, with additional shipment of aluminium, pulp and paper, silicon, manganese, fertilizer, downstream timber, and agro produce and product making its way to the dock.
