Abstrak Kajian ini berkaitan dengan konsep sastera Islam yang digagaskan oleh Dr. Uthman el- Muhammady. Beliau terkenal sebagai seorang yang zuhud dan di gelar 'lebai kampung' dengan kentrampilan yang sederhana. Namun disebalik itu beliau adalah seorang intelektual yang hebat. Beliau menekankan bidang kerohanian dan menekan kan ia mempunyai kaitan yang rapat dengan bidang keilmuan. Dalam konsep sastera Islam yang digagaskan, beliau telah melihat konsep ini pada sudut yang agak berbeza jika dibandingkan dengan para ilmuwan lain. Beliau sangat menekankan hubungan' sastera Islam' dengan 'Tasawwuf'. Walaupun pada mulanya tidak menyebut istilah 'sastera Islam' tetapi beliau memaksudkan dengan 'sastera Islam'. Dalam bukunya 'Memahami Islam, Insan, Ilmu dan Kebudayaan' beliau telah menggunakan tajuk 'Ke arah melahirkan tradisi persajakan Islam'. Setelah membincangkan bagaimana 'sifat' dan terbentuknya 'sastera Islam' dengan menekankan hubungan keperibadian sasterawan dengan Allah swt (tazkiah al-Nafs) beliau menyatakan bahawa sastera Islam mempunyai nilai yang; membawa kebenaran, ia lahir dari “taraf inspirasi suci”, memelihara unsur-unsur yang sudah ada dalam tradisi keislaman, membawa mesej keikhlasan, menampilkan keindahan Tuhan (جمال الله), mempunyai unsur perlambangan yang lahir dari hati dan akal yang bersih, mesejnya universal, positif, membina ruh manusia, dan hubungan yang rapat dengan Tasawwuf. Konsep sastera islam yang digagaskan oleh el Muhammady sedikit sebanyak memberi pencerahan kepada kita tentang sumber pemikiran yang sebenar bertujangkan kepada kebenaran. Apabila kita benar benar memahaminya jelas perbezaannya dengan pemikiran sekuler, Islam Liberal dan sebagainya kerana konsep dan pegangan fahaman ini bukan secara mutlaq kepada al Quran dan Sunnah. Abstract This study is about the concept of Islamic Literature as proposed by Dr Uthman el Muhammady who is known for his humble character and piety. In spite of that, he was undoubtedly an outstanding intellectual. He stressed on the spiritual aspect and saw its relation to a realm of knowledge. In his proposed conceptualization of Islamic literature, he took on the subject in a different manner from other intellectuals. He always maintained the relation between Islamic literature and tasawwuf although that he did not explicitly use the term Islamic literature initially. In his book (Understanding Islam, Man, Knowledge and Culture) he did dedicate a topic entitled (towards producing Islamic poetry tradition). After discussing the attributes of Islamic literature from the standpoint of the relation between a literary figure and the Creator he concluded that Islamic Literature has the objectives to assert truthfulness that comes from a divine inspiration level, to preserve the existing values Islam, to convey sincerity, to assert the beauty of the Creator, having the symbols that emanate from purified mind and soul, its message is universal, positive, constructive spiritually thus having a very close tie with Tasawwuf. This concept, to a certain extent gives us an enlightened understanding of the real origin of thought that is deeply rooted in the truth. If we really understand it, the difference with the secular orientation and other contemporary thoughts such as Islamic liberalism will become clear; that these thoughts are in fact in contrast with the Quran and Sunnah.
