Metabolomics in medicinal herbal science

Medicinal herbs contain multi-metabolites which may work synergistic or antagonistically contributing to bio-activity or toxicity. Conservative analytical approach focusing some limited target compounds is not appropriate to the nature of medicinal herbs. It requires a holistic approach considering...

Conservative analytical approach focusing some limited target compounds is not appropriate to the nature of medicinal herbs. It requires a holistic approach considering all possible metabolites that can be detected and analyzed in herbs which is called metabolomics. This new approach is part of omics technology following the pre-existing holistic approach such as genomics and proteomics. In this presentation, metabolomics is introduced as well is its application in the medicinal herbal science. Three scope of research activities on herbal science can be applied such as : analysis of known bio-active compounds, development of rapid analytical tool in quality control of herbal products based on the fingerprint of their metabolites, and comprehensive evaluation of bio-activity and toxicity of the herbal products. 2020-06-30 Conference or Workshop Item NonPeerReviewed application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/87563/1/e-sertifikat%20Metabolomic%20%233%20-%20Assoc.%20Prof.%20Dr.%20Alfi%20Khatib.pdf application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/87563/2/IMG-20200619-WA0017.jpg application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/87563/3/Screenshot_2020-12-27%20Metabolomic%20Contribution%20in%20Predicting%20Active%20Plant%20Compounds%20for%20the%20Herbal%20Medicine%20Industry%20IPB%20Un%5B...%5D.png application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/87563/4/Metabolomic%20Contribution%20in%20Predicting%20Active%20Plant%20Compounds%20for%20the%20Herbal%20Medicine%20Industry%20IPB%20University.htm application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/87563/5/IPB%202020-metabolomics-irep.pdf Khatib, Alfi (2020) Metabolomics in medicinal herbal science.
