Description
Summary:The study aims to analyse the role of principals’ instructional leadership in generating quality teaching at excellent secondary schools in Malaysia according to teachers’ perceptions. School principal plays big roles in generating quality teaching, transformation and performance of school. The framework by Hallinger and Murphy (1987), Latip (2006), and Mohamad Johdi & Hatta (2018) was used in this study. The data was collected using a survey questionnaire adapted from the Principal Instructional Management Rating Scale (PIMRS). There were 436 academic teachers of excellent secondary schools in Malaysia were randomly selected and participated as the respondents of the study. The data gathered from the survey was examined using descriptive and inference statistics of the SPSS-Versions 22.0 programme. The analysis of the study demonstrated that the highest score was dimension ‘Developing and Enforcing Academic Standards’ achieved mean 4.2293, second highest was ‘Communicating the School Goals’ with mean 4.1269 and third was ‘Protecting Instructional Time’ with mean 3.7921. It is hope that the findings of the study will be useful to effectively assist the principal’s practice in generating quality teaching towards high performing excellent schools.
