Description
Summary:This study discusses views and perceptions held by Malaysian Muslim scholars about the Egyptian activist and revivalist, Sayyid Quţb. Based on survey samples and interviews, the author explores these opinions of Qutb's interpretation of the Qur'ān and other Islamic issues, including his socio-religious-political thought and contributions to Islamic revival. Such a study is especially warranted after numerous post-September 11 remarks offered by western writers and scholars. This pool of sundry perceptions and judgements on his life and work include Qutb's struggle to implement Islamic law in Egypt and other parts of the Muslim world. Survey results taken exclusively from professionals and highly qualified Islamic scholars in Malaysia demonstrate that the majority hold positive opinions and perceptions regarding Sayyid Qutb's role and contributions to the advance of the global Muslim community and contemporary Islamic thought
