Product liability law seeks to provide redress for damage suffered by the victims of defective products. The body of law encompasses a composite mix of various statutes and common law principles. Over the years, product liability law has undergone rapid changes and become increasingly important in the contemporary legal, social and economic development of many countries in different parts of the world including Malaysia. The Malaysian law of product liability is succinctly discussed in this book. The applicable statutes like the Contracts Act 1950, the Sale of Goods Act 1957 and the Consumer Protection Act 1987 as well as case law are analysed and explained to provide a helpful guide to this area of law. The knowledge contained in this book will no doubt contribute an important impetus to spur the protection of the interests of consumers. The concept of strict liability for defective products which provides special protection for victims is explored. Individual chapters are also devoted to discuss the types of recoverable loss and damage as well as the available general and statutory defences. Product Liability in Malaysia is a book which should not be missed by lawyers, in-house counsel, business owners and all consumers, whether individual or corporate.
