INTRODUCTION The World Bank has identified that corruption is as the single greatest obstacle to economic and social development. This is because it distorts the rule of law and weakens the institutional foundation on which economic growth depends. Given its serious implications, the issue of corruption has now become the main agenda at international conferences, business gatherings and academic conferences. It often becomes a key election issue in many countries as well.
