Summary: | The study of manuscripts has been relegated by many to the days of orientalism and old philologists in the field. The study of society and politics have permeated area studies in many important areas today. Scholars believe that the study of society is more important than the study of texts. Though this is a bit crude, the question remains: how do we understand society today? what tools can be used to conceptualize doctrinal issues within societies if we ignore textual and manuscript studies that outline the belief of a people? It seems that the study of society can be enriched further with insights from texts that are close to the society they play a role in. |
