Our planet is undeniably warming. Heat waves, once rare, have become a harsh reality due to climate change. As the world contends with the mounting impacts of climate change, children face a perilous threat - extreme heat. Currently, an alarming one-third of the world’s children - around 559 million - suffer through four to five heat waves annually, enduring extended periods of dangerously high temperatures. The increasing frequency and severity of heat waves due to climate change pose a significant challenge for communities worldwide, with children bearing a disproportionate share of the burden. From physical health risks and educational disruptions to heightened social and economic disparities, the multifaceted impacts of heat waves on children highlight the urgent need for action. Navigating these challenges requires us to embrace the principles of environmental stewardship emphasised by various cultural and religious traditions.
