A vascular graft infection nightmare secondary to Candida albicans

Femoral-femoral bypass surgery involves creating a bypass around a blocked or narrowed section of the femoral artery, which is a major blood vessel in the leg. During the procedure, a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) graft, which is a synthetic material commonly used in bypass surgery, is sewn into p...

During the procedure, a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) graft, which is a synthetic material commonly used in bypass surgery, is sewn into place to redirect the flow of blood around the blocked area. However, in some cases, the PTFE graft may become infected after surgery, leading to a potentially serious complication. In this case report, we present the case of a patient who developed a Candida albicans infection in a femoral-femoral bypass using a PTFE graft. This rare but serious complication required urgent surgical intervention and long-term antifungal treatment. 2023-04 Conference or Workshop Item NonPeerReviewed application/pdf en http://irep.iium.edu.my/105602/31/105602_A%20vascular%20graft%20infection%20nightmare%20secondary%20to%20Candida%20albicans.pdf Zainulabid, Ummu Afeera and Kamil, Muhammad Khidhir and Ramzah, Fatin Farahani and Lee, Chen Dar and Basir, Ani Anisa and Md Idris, Mohamad Azim and Safri, Lenny Suryani and Kori, Najma and Periyasamy, Petrick (2023) A vascular graft infection nightmare secondary to Candida albicans.
