Description
Summary:Objective: This study is to determine the correlation of the anteroposterior skeletal and soft tissue cephalometric measurements of the Malaysian Malays. Methods: A retrospective study involving 60 pre-existing lateral cephalometric radiographs taken from October 2017 to October 2021 of skeletal Class I Malaysian (30 males and 30 females) of pure Malay ethnic group aged 20 to 40 were retrieved from two private dental clinics in Kuantan. These radiographs were hand traced using acetate paper and 0.3 mm leaded propelling pencil on a light view box in a darkened room. The skeletal and soft tissue variables measured were ANB, FH-NA, FH-NPg and G’Sn’Pg’. The values were analysed to find its correlation using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Results: Out of these 4 variables, only FH-NA and FH-NPg showed linearity. Both FH-NA and FH-NPg were found to have significant correlation; 0.67 (moderate) with a p value of 0.01. The rest of the variables did not show any linearity or correlation. Conclusion: There is a moderate significant correlation between variables FH-NA and FH-NPg for the Malaysian Malays in this study.
