Description
Summary:The conventional health care monitoring system cannot give real time updates on the medical records of a patient and is bounded by distance, hence resulting in abnormal signs on a patient to go unnoticed until it is too late. The aim of the study is to develop a prototype of healthcare monitoring system that is able to detect and wirelessly transmit pulse rate and temperature of a human body to a host PC. Using Arduino Uno R3 as the platform, a prototype is developed with ZigBee technology chosen as the wireless framework. Later, the precision of the sensors of the prototype is tested by calculating the standard deviation of the data set obtained. Next, the accuracy of the reading is tested by calculating the percentage error of the mean value from the set of data taking readings from established sensors as real value. From the test, the pulse sensor produces 1.35 for the standard deviation and 1.61% of percentage error, while the temperature sensor scores 0.74 for standard deviation and 0.75 for percentage error. Finally, an interface that is able to display the data on the host PC and provide the alarm in case of abnormal reading is design. As a conclusion, the prototype that is built is a success as it is able to detect and wirelessly transmit pulse rate and temperature of a human body to a host PC with precision and accuracy.
