Text-to-Speech (TTS) is a computer based system that able to read aloud any input text. This project will focus on developing a Text-to-Speech (TTS) for Malay language. This TTS application will enable user to pronounceMalay words correctly. It will read the text based on its syllable strings. Though mapping sound via words may produce better pronunciation since it can produce words in more natural, there might difficulties to maintain the availability of all words. In addition, it might need bigger space to install audio files into such computer. Thus, mapping sound via syllables in this project can assure that all Malay words can be read aloud. Moreover, this approach might also enable all prefixes and suffixes to be read aloud even the pronunciation of words might not that natural. The syllabification techniques of this project will apply the Maximum Onset Principle (MOP) approach. This project is extensively developed using VB.NET version 2005 and Sony Sound Forge 8.0. Hence, this project is also a continuation of previous student project, Mr. Muhammad AshraffAhmad.
