Description
Summary:Study of preparation and characterization of polymer membrane is important with the intention to find the membrane process that are economically feasible and also can obtain highly permeable and selective membranes which are good in mechanical aspect and achieved thermal stability. This report contained the preparation and characterization of Poly Vinyl Chloride/ Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene polymer blend or also known as PVC/ABS blends. Objectives and scope of the project includes the study of method and preparation process of membranes and characterization of the prepared membrane. In preparation process, solubility of polymer in solvent, effect of polymer concentration and rate of evaporation is observed and analyzed. While for characterization of membrane, only surface charges ofthe polymer membrane is tested. Further characterization experimental can not be carrying out due to time constraint and unavailable equipments. Methodology and procedure of all the experiments is explained in detail in Chapter 3: In solubility experiment, the result showed that both polymers are most and fastest dissolved in Tetra Hydro Furan (THF). More over, the perfect condition and fast rate of evaporation is inside the fume hood and let it open to surrounding air. The membranes that were produced are at the best condition for the characterization purpose later on. The membranes that were produce are different in concentrations which are 7%wt, 10%wt, 12%wt and 15%wt. Characterization measurement of the membranes shown that the polymer membranes which contain high weight percent of ABS is posses more negative charge compare to the polymer which contain high weight percent ofPVC All the results are further discussed in chapter4: Result and Discussion.
