Description
Summary:This project research presents a method using Augmented Reality (AR) based technology to support navigation in an indoor environment to mitigate the current navigation technology which is Global Positioning System (GPS) based that cannot be implemented for indoor localization due to the incapability of the signal to penetrate buildings. Moreover, the existing Indoor Positioning System (IPS) such as Bluetooth, WLAN, RFID, Infrared and high-sensitivity GNSS are having high dependency on the infrastructure and low cost-effectiveness. This project includes comprehensive comparison of the current navigation technologies with the to-be-developed system. A survey has been conducted for gathering both user and system requirements. The system proposed in this project would be an AR-based indoor navigation mobile application using marker-based approach. The system designs for Android platform through ARCore Software Development Kit (SDK). The purpose of the project is to assist system administrator to create indoor map and for the user to navigate around indoor environment using mobile based AR assisted applications. Thus, the aim of this project is to reduce user trial-and-error stress thus saving time in getting to the intended destination.
