Description
Summary:Slope stability has been an important issue in the geotechnical world as it affects the safety of the surrounding. Unstable slopes or cliffs are generally caused by the condition of the rocks and also other external factors which enhances its failure. Condition of the rocks are altered due to chemical and physical weathering. These factors causes the rocks to be weak and less cohesive and thus results in the formation of joints and fractures. Other external factors include water seepage as it increases the pressure within the rocks and thus reduces its cohesive strength. Among the available methods to assess and analyze the slope stability, discontinuity analysis is the most essential method to determine the potential modes of failure of the slope. This can be done by plotting the stereonet analysis by using the strike and dip angles of the slope joints. However, there is less study for slope stability of Gunung Lanno. As the cliffs of Gunung Lanno is facing the access road from Ipoh to Cameron Highlands, this report studies the stability of the cliff and also the general geology of the study area which focuses on the variation of calcium and magnesium content of limestone in the study area.
