Description
Summary:An offshore platform is a large structure with facilities to extract and process oil or natural gas. The harsh environment due to wind, current and wave in the offshore conditions might reduce the structural integrity of this platform especially for fixed type platform. Thus, a good monitoring system needs to be apply at offshore platforms for their structural integrity monitoring purposes. Global Positioning System (GPS) Technique has been used for the purpose of structural monitoring, however it was not done in real-time. This study proposes the real-time structural monitoring using Real-Time-Kinematic GPS technique, albeit only in simulated environment due to logistical constrain. Several RTK GPS configurations were investigated to assess its accuracy for such monitoring, such as baseline distance between rover and base station and amount of data collected. This study shows RTKGPS technique is capable to be used as real-time structural monitoring system for structure such as offshore platform.
