Description
Summary:In the field of fluid flow measurement, Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is the most recent addition technique to be introduced. The basic premise of how PIV works is by injecting small particles the fluid that is going to be tested and the position of a small group of said particles is recorded over two short interval time to extract the velocity of the fluid. Therefore PIV is conceived as method of measuring by means of visualization of the fluid flow that been applied by scientist and researchers throughout the years. This study touches on the development of PIV and investigation of featured and the theory involved. The research is about creating an algorithm derived from cross-correlation theory that is being used in extracting velocity of the fluid. The software being used is MATLAB and the focus of the study is the 2D PIV which also requires the need to study 2D fluid flow.
