Description
Summary:Reverse engineering is developing at a very fast rate nowadays and can be applied in several fields. Reverse engineering can be machine, manufacturing, biomedical engineering and the list goes on. In clinical and research application, the assessment of skin ulcer size has become essentially importance to monitor and evaluate the progress of healing of the wound. Therefore, quantitative measurement, like volume, surface area and depth of a skin ulcer is to be measure to for accessing the progress and effectiveness of healing. The development of non-invasive method of assessing skin ulcer is becoming more and more popular due to the fact that it overcomes the disadvantages that cause by invasive method which is infection and pain. This project involves reverse engineering to facilitate the assessment of the skin ulcer size by using 3D laser scanning method. The development of a MATLAB algorithm which is capable to detect the ulcer from a laser scanning and estimate the quantitative measurement of a skin ulcer from the scanning. Other than that, the algorithm developed also has to be precise in order to achieve the objective of monitoring the changes in skin ulcer. The outcome of this project will significantly simplify and speed up the process of determining the change of a skin ulcer and thus help the clinical personnel in providing more effective treatment regime.
