Description
Summary:This research reports the use of different reading strategies to read English text in Malaysian ESL classroom. It aimed to find out different reading strategies used, how the reading strategies correlate with students’ level of proficiency and whether there is a difference in strategy use by male and female students. Data was collected using a questionnaire. The findings show that students use all Global Reading, Problem Solving and Support Reading strategies. The most preferred strategy is the Problem Solving strategy and the item analysis indicates that students use guessing to solve problems. Students should be taught to use strategies that critically analyze a text to become better readers.
