Summary: | The development of Malaysia's shared economy offers better prices for consumers, more affordable commodities and more convenient access to shared goods and services. It I.s changed how many consumers commute, shop, vacation, borrow and rent. This phenomenon I.s provided both consumers and corporations with unexpected challenges. Besides, these business models did not even exist when many aspects of the regulatory framework were designed, such as consumer protection rules. In addition, due to competition and rapid technological growth, the business conditions are changing drastically. Law and public policy should also change and adapt in order to meet these realities. This paper explores the reasons regulating the sharing economy sector on the basis of a systematic literature review and offers arguments both for and against public regulation of the sharing economy using the method of content analysis. This paper concludes with some proposals f further research in this area, and a call f appropriate regulatory approach for protecting consumer interests the sharing economy businesses.
