Description
Summary:Background:A lligator pear (Percea americana Mill.) belongs to family Lauraceae' [n ancient traditional systems of medicine, the parts of the plantare being used for relieving constipation' diarrhoea, dysentery, peptic ulcer and respiratory infections.Aim: The present attempt has been made to evaluate the free radical scavanging potential along with anticanceractivity of methanolic extracts from leaf of A. pear.Method: Standard method for antioxidant potential in terms of DPPH and nitric oxide scavenging assay, and for anticancer actitrityin-vitro method by using MCFT cell line were adapted. Result:Results of antioxidant efficacy revealed that the ICso value for DPPH and nitric oxide scavenging assay was found to be 52.032o/o, and 15.690/o respectively' The methanolic extract of A.pear was found to possess enhanced anticancer potential against MCFT cetls. Cytotoxicity activity of MCFT cells when treated with methanolic extract of Persea unericana Mill.wa's found to be 33'42o/o at 251tg;42.31o/o at 50pg; 46'310/o at 75pg; 48'38% at 100pg; 52.25o/o at l251tg' The ICso value of was found tt-r be 39.36pg. Discussion: Toxicity was significantly increased with the increased concentration and viability significantly decreased with the increase concentration of methanolic extract of leaf from A' pear for MCFT cell when comPared to cyclophosphamide towards ductal carcinoma' Conclusion: From the studies it was postulated that methanolic extract of leaf of Persea americana Mill. has significant chemo preventive activity. These specific identities will t" useful for the identification and authentication of raw drug' Hence in conclusion utilization or increased consumption of this leaf extract will be advantage to mankind, and it will helpful in prevention of chronic life style along with several kinds of oxidative degenerative disease. Further investigations on health promoting aspects in animal models in future will be progress.
