In the case of Singapore, its potential risks to Malaya were mitigated through the inclusion of Sabah and Sarawak in the scheme. This essay discusses the factors leading to Singapore?s merger with and exit from Malaysia. It argues that Malaysia was established for the goal of creating ?political security? in the region.
