Description
Summary:In recent years, concrete masonry unit (CMU) structures have been widely used in rural areas of Malaysia. However, it was found to have a poor performance of masonry wall-column regarding to the failure and crack behaviour. This research work presents the investigation and study on the cracking behaviour of concrete masonry wall-column structure. The results from this study will provide a significant understanding of the crack and failure of local in-filled reinforced CMU wall- column. The experimental work involved investigating the failure and crack pattern of CMU wall-column under axial loads performance. The experimental outcomes outlined that reinforced CMU wall-column under axial loading it failed usually due to the cracking caused by a breakdown of the bond between the masonry blocks and the mortar. Therefore, cracking is not due to the tensile failure of the units themselves or of the mortar itself.
