Green residential buildings: The perspective of potential buyers

Green buildings are committed to create an acceptable standard of living as well as to preserve nature from destruction.As an example, human being need houses for survival, without knowing that these houses actually affect and deteriorate the surrounding nature.This is because conventional houses produce CO2 approximately 10 to 30 tonnes per year.As a consequence, these houses are causes for the global warming and environmental pollution.The green residential concept incorporates houses with minimum energy, water and natural resources that provide good air quality and waste reduction.This study aims to explore the perceptions of potential house buyers towards the green residential concept.Currently, the demand for green residential buildings is very low due to 30% more increase in costs than conventional house.This study utilizes the qualitative methodology where face-to-face interviews are the primary source of data collection.Sixteen respondents were interviewed with a semi-structured interview guide.This study found that 81% of the potential residential agreed that green buildings can save utilities bills and 100% agreed on adoption of air flows and circulation can reduce heat.The study also found that 67% of the respondents were not aware of the green residential building concept,whereas the remaining 23% acknowledged the existence of the green residential building but with a vague understanding.
