总结:When an incident of death in custody occurred, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Police Force would normally adopt a denial approach as its early crisis response management strategy. This practice seems to demonstrate the organization’s lack of accountability and transparency in dealing with the crisis. Therefore, the study intends to examine such practices and their impacts on the reputation of the UAE Police Force. It also assesses the mediating influence of charismatic leadership communication and moderating role of international learning orientation on the organization’s perceived reputation. This study is based on quantitative research methods using survey techniques for collecting primary data. Coombs’ Situational Crisis Communication Theory is employed in this study with the focus of investigating the victims who reportedly died under the custody of the UAE Police Force. The independent variables consisted of crisis management, charismatic leadership, and international learning orientation. The sampling population comprised 17,500 officers attached to the police forces of the Emirates of Fujairah and Sharjah, with the sampling size of this study being 226. The technique used for selecting samples is proportionate stratified random sampling. Moreover, a partial least square structural equation modelling technique was applied. Concerning the time frame, this study analyzed cross-sectional data collected in 2019. Based on the partial least square structural equation modelling, the findings reveal that crisis response strategy, crisis responsibility, and charismatic leadership communication have a significant impact on perceived organizational reputation. Likewise, the mediating role of charismatic leadership communication has also been found to be substantial in influencing this reputation. Finally, the moderating role of international learning orientation was also significant. Overall, the model was capable of explaining 72.4% change because of the selected exogenous variables. The overall model is of significance and the findings are critical for the relevant policymakers as the issue of the perceived reputation of an organization is a serious matter and needs proper attention.
