Sains Malaysia Kubang Kerian Kelantan Malaysia. Data were collected using Child
Abuse Report Intention Scale (CARIS), self-administered questionnaire adopted from the
previous studies. The questionnaire was given to 140 respondents. Descriptive analysis,
Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis dan Spearman’s correlation was used to analyse the
statistical analysis of the responses. The total knowledge of healthcare providers was poor
(42%). Their attitude toward child abuse and perceived behavioural control was
acceptable with mean score of 40.1 (SD 6.58) and 23.1 (SD 3.38), respectively. There
was slight correlation between attitude about child discipline and intention of reporting
with r=-0.248, p value=0.003. Multiple regression test showed attitude toward child
physical discipline and attitude toward punishment to perpetrators were the predictors of
intention of reporting child abuse. In this study, the healthcare providers had low
knowledge, acceptable attitude and perceived behavioural control on handling child
abuse. This may be due to less exposure to child abuse cases. |
