Description
Summary:The primary objective of this study was to determine the nutritional value (protein, fat, ash, moisture and carbohydrate) in M. rosenbergii in Kelantan. The sampling of the prawn began in early September in Kelantan. Two kilogram prawns each from Sungai Semerak and Sungai Ketil were obtained. The proximal analysis was conducted in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University Malaysia Kelantan in Pengkalan Chepa. The prawns flesh was sampled for proximal analysis in order to determine the crude protein, crude fat, moisture, carbohydrate and ash content. The data from proximal analysis were analysed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) from Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 22 to find the significant different between two sampling site in Kelantan. Results from the study showed that the prawns contain high content of protein which is ranged from 75.14 % to 77.73 %. The crude fat content were ranged from 6.26 % to 6.55%. the ash content were ranged from 4.92 % to 5.02 %. The moisture content ranged from 86.08 % to 86.31 %. Lastly the carbohydrate content were ranged from 10.80 % to 13.59. In conclusion, the proximate composition of wild type M. rosenbergii in Sungai Ketil in Gua Musang and Sungai Semerak in Pasir Puteh were almost same except for carbohydrate content. The findings of the current study suggest that the prawn M. rosenbergii contains greater number of proteins.
