Description
Summary:The advantage of composite material over conventional engineering materials stem largely from their high specific strength, stiffness and fatigue characteristics. Composite materials over the years have emerged as a strong contender for replacing steel in piping application. The research is focuses on the design and mechanism of drill pipe used in the drill string. The design of the drill pipe will take into account the analysis on the two main factors of process and material parameters with regards to stress distribution and strength-to-weight ratio. Furthermore, the study only concentrates on the composite pipe fabricated based on only the filament winding technique used for manufacturing open (cylinders) or closed end structures (pressure vessels or tanks). The design properties of the drill pipe will be determined with regard to different material composition. The analyses on these two parameters will indicate whether the composite drill pipe could possibly be used to replace the conventional steel pipe. For that purposes, the research will be carried out using the models developed via the mathematical calculation and finite element analysis (FEA) on ANSYS codes.
