Predicting the factors that will affect the formation of mud cake is a major challenge because there are many variables, which affect the thickness of mud cake during CwD. The objective of this study is to investigate the factors that affect the thickness of mud cake formed on the borehole wall at different operating conditions. Furthermore, the objective of this study is scoped down to two operating factors, namely casing rotational speed and annular velocity. The study is started with the formation of three dimensional multiphase fluid simulation model, followed by parametric study on the two operating factors using ANSYS Fluent. The result of this study has shown the correlation of thickness of mud cake formed and casing rotational speed and annular velocity.
